Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 19, 2026

The Dread Directory is an iOS and Android app created and operated by Drew Krotzer ("we," "us," or "the app"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using The Dread Directory, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

Information we collect

Account information. When you sign in with Apple, we receive a unique user identifier from Apple and, if you choose, your name and email address. Apple lets you hide your real email and provide a private relay address — that is your choice to make. We use this information solely to associate your handle with your device and to enable account recovery.

Handle. The username (handle) you choose for the app is stored on our servers. Your handle is public and appears next to any sites you submit, posts you make, and comments you leave.

Device identifier. We generate a unique device identifier when you first launch the app. This identifier ties your handle to your device so that only you can post under your handle. We do not associate this identifier with any personally identifiable information.

Location data. The app uses your device's location for two purposes:

Your precise location is processed on your device. We do not store a history of your location. Coarse location coordinates are only sent to our servers when you claim a visit to a site or submit a new site, in which case we verify you are physically on-site.

User-generated content. Anything you post to DreadFeed — photos, videos, captions, comments, poll responses — is stored on our servers and visible to other users of the app. Sites you submit are also stored on our servers and visible to all users after admin approval.

What we do NOT collect. We do not collect your contacts, browsing history, financial information, health data, advertising identifiers, or any data not listed above. We do not use third-party analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs.

How we use your information

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising. We do not run ads in the app.

How we store your information

Your data is stored on servers operated by Railway (a cloud hosting provider) and Cloudflare R2 (object storage for photos). These services are bound by their own privacy policies and security standards.

Your choices and rights

Delete your account. Open the app, go to Account, and tap Delete Account. This permanently removes your handle, all your posts, all your comments, every site you submitted, and every like you cast. It cannot be undone.

Revoke location access. You can change your location permissions at any time in iOS Settings → The Dread Directory → Location, or in Android Settings.

Revoke notifications. You can turn off notifications at any time in iOS Settings → The Dread Directory → Notifications, or in Android Settings.

Children's privacy

The Dread Directory is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to the app, contact us at the address below and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
